Huangshan Maofeng (Yellow Mountain’s Fur Peak)

There's an old Chinese saying "famous mountains produce famous tea", and this is indeed true for Huangshan Maofeng (黄山毛峰). This green tea is grown and produced on the forested mountainous upper slopes of the famous Mt. HuangShan in Anhui. Huangshan Maofeng is a very high quality, early spring harvested tea with one bud and leaf of a yellow-green color. When brewed, it has a pale apricot color, pleasant orchid like aroma and long lasting, light, fresh taste with no hint of bitterness at all. This tea is one of the most famous teas in China and can always be found on the China Famous Tea list.

Origin:
Mt Huangshan, Anhui, China
Harvest Time:
April 2013
This tea is picked in early Spring 2013, just before China's Qingming Festival. Tea leaves picked during this period are better in taste and aroma than those picked after the festival.

Appearance:
Golden yellow combination of young and tender tea leaves (one bud with one attached leaf)
Huangshan Mao Feng's english translation is "Yellow Mountain Fur Peak", and this is due to the small white hairs which cover the leaves and the shape of the processed leaves which resemble the peak of a mountain.

Tasting notes:
Pleasant orchid like aroma and long lasting, light, fresh taste with no hint of bitterness at all

Health Benefits
HuangShan MaoFeng has high levels of antioxidants which is widely recognized to be able to help reduce the risk of cancer, promote good skin tone and help delay aging. With high levels of vitamin C, fluoride and calcium, it can also aid in healthy teeth and bones.

Recommended Brewing guide:
We recommend using glass-based or white ceramic tea ware. This will allow you to enjoy watching the slowly changing shape of the leaves as they slowly absorb water while brewing. Rinse tea cup and teapot with hot water. Use about 2 grams of tea leaves (1-2 teaspoons) for every 150ml of water. Steep tea leaves in hot water at about 80°c (176°F) for 1 minute for the first and second brewing. Gradually increase steeping time and temperature for subsequent brewing.

Legend has it that a young scholar and a beautiful local girl fell very much in love. However, a local landowner took a liking for the girl when he saw her picking tea. He forced the girl's parents to make their daughter marry him. On the night before the wedding, the girl discovered that the landowner had murdered the scholar. She went to his grave and cried till she became the rain. Later, the scholar's body became a tea tree.
